Sustainability Report
Values such as environmental protection or employee development are among the pillars of our corporate philosophy. In order to give our customers, suppliers, employees and all other stakeholders an insight into our business practices, we have been publishing our commitment in the annual Hammerbacher Sustainability Report since 2021. The report covers the areas of production, employees, social action, the environment and the most important key figures and targets. The central aspect of the sustainability report is the documentation of the emissions of Hammerbacher GmbH in Neumarkt/OPf., where logistics and administrative activities are carried out, and Hammerbacher SK a.s. in Pukanec/Slovakia, where the majority of the production of the furniture offered by Hammerbacher GmbH is located. The goods traffic between the production plant and the logistics location was also included in the analysis.
FSC® certification
As a German company, we have been FSC-certified since 2011. The wood content of our office furniture is made of FSC®-certified and other controlled materials. This claim refers to products containing wood. (FSC® – C110576 | www.fsc.org)

In the summer of 2022, we launched a long-term reforestation project in Uganda together with FSC® .
Operational environmental protection
- In 2024 our photovoltaic systems generated 434.7 MWh of electricity in total. At our Neumarkt site, own generation covered the site’s electricity demand in full; the remainder is covered by certified renewable electricity. Overall, 3,306.8 of 5,011.8 MWh of our energy consumption came from renewable sources, around 66 per cent.
- We heat our Slovakian production site in Pukanec using a wood chip plant fuelled by our own wood waste. In 2024, this will generate around 2,829.5 MWh of renewable heat.
- We are cutting our greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1+2 of our sustainability report): 446.6 tCO2eq in 2024, 27.8% below our 2020 baseline (GHG Protocol Corporate Standard).
- Our waste management demonstrates the successful implementation of the principles of the circular economy. Total waste generation fell from 1,446.4 tonnes (2023) to 1,313.7 tonnes (2024), representing a reduction of 9.2 per cent. At the same time, our recycling rate rose from 61.0% to 62.5%, enabling us to send 821.4 tonnes of waste for recycling.
- Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and our environmental management system to ISO 14001:2015.Since the summer of 2021, we have also been an eco-sponsor of the Landschaftspflegeverband Neumarkt i.d.OPf. e.V. With this partnership, we would like to make an active contribution to ensuring that our home remains worth living in and worth loving.
